Share Your Expertise with the Industry
Consider sharing your expertise with the industry as an author of a PERI distance education
course. By contributing to a distance education course as an author you open up new avenues for
publication. You also show your support for providing industry with an alternative format for meeting
learning needs. Distance education courses provide a cost-effective way for industry professionals to
continue their learning without having to travel away from home or the office.
PERI seeks professional content that could be released via a variety of formats including:
- Online learning courses containing text, graphics, and interactive exercises
- Live audio teleconferences utilizing synchronized PowerPoint slides
In your proposal, you may make suggestions regarding the delivery format as well as potential
collaborative authors where appropriate. Faculty of distance education courses are eligible to receive
honoraria based on program content, length, and format.
Submitting a Proposal
To submit your course idea, we request that you submit the online Proposal Form. Once we
receive your form, we will work with you through the following steps:
- PERI will acknowledge receipt of your proposal and discuss any questions with you. We will
then review your proposal internally, as well as with its Curriculum Committee group of advisors
to determine whether the topic is viable and truly needed.
- PERI will discuss with you the intention to proceed or not with course development.
Course Development Process
When a decision is made to proceed with course development, PERI will work with you through the
following steps:
- Determine the most appropriate delivery format for your material (e.g., web-based, audio
conference).
- Discuss an appropriate honorarium to compensate you for your efforts. You will be asked to
sign a standard memo of agreement that outlines honorarium as well as deliverables.
- Schedule the audio conference, if that is the delivery method chosen.
- You begin working on creating your material in the appropriate format. The material may take
the form of written material supplemented by graphics, PowerPoint slides, case studies, etc. for
an online course. The material may simply be PowerPoint slides that will be synchronized with
your audio delivery for a live audio conference.
- Submit your materials to PERI, where an instructional designer will work with your materials
to format them for the delivery method. The designer will request your final approval for all
materials before they are published online or otherwise.
If you have any questions about the proposal submission process, please contact the PERI distance
education department at 703.276.0178 or
distance_education@peri.org. We look forward to seeing your ideas!
